Jenson Button compared the skills of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso and ensures that the Spaniard is a more complete pilot.

Button knows both drivers well, as he was a teammate with both of them in the McLaren team. Between 2010 and 2012 he was a teammate of Lewis Hamilton, until the seven-time champion signed for Mercedes. And three years later, he shared a team with Alonso for two seasons: 2015 and 2016, when the Spaniard returned to the Woking team.

"I can only compare them when they were my teammates, I cannot compare them now. At that time the most complete was Fernando because he found any way to be faster than you," explained the former driver in an interview with Nico Rosberg for his Youtube channel.

Instead, Buttton has ensured that Hamilton was quicker on one lap. "He was very fast. Like he did not have the pace in training, but then in qualifying he was always there. He always found the time," said the Englishman.

"Fernando was sometimes not fast during the weekend, but then he got a good result. He always knew how to get the best out of the car... If you were in front of him, he would try a different strategy and if he was behind, sometimes he would say that there was a problem with the car and he wanted to retire," he told Rosberg with a laugh.

The 2009 world champion has highlighted the good relationship he had with Alonso when they were teammates. "I really enjoyed that time. With Fernando we understood each other very well and we respected each other a lot. Fernando played a lot more and I was at a point in my career that I was willing to play. We were so slow that we fought each other," he detailed.

In addition, Button has highlighted Alonso's ability to be fast in any series. "Fernando has an incredible talent. He has raced Le Mans, the Dakar, Daytona... and has been very strong in everything he has contested," said the former driver.

Button has remembered with special affection the seasons that he was teammates of both drivers. "Racing with both of them as teammates has been very special because you know that you compete with the best and if you win it means a lot," Jenson pointed out to conclude.
